Fernando was born and raised in San Juan, Puerto Rico. His passion for photography started in high school, photographing antique automobiles and motorsports, and grew while he travelled throughout Central and South America as part of a car racing team.

In 2000, he moved to Charleston, South Carolina, where his wife encouraged him to study photography. He studied at an art studio in Charleston until 2002, when they moved to New Jersey. There he joined several camera clubs and attended Montclair State University, where he continued learning, studying and diversifying his passion and photography skills.

In 2007, he and his wife opened a studio in Wyckoff, New Jersey (Lopez-Kiil Photography, LLC), where they continue to serve all types of clients (events/weddings, portraits, model portfolios and commercial photography). During the past two years, he’s been helping his wife with a project documenting (photography and video) the stories of people who fled Estonia during World War II.

Fernando is a diverse, creative photographer who doesn’t like to focus or specialize in only one type or genre of photography. He’s very serious about his work and his clients’ privacy. He is always looking for the ultimate image and always moving forward with the technology and new trends in photography. He continually studies the work of well-known photographers in all genres of photography, from wedding to fashion/editorial to automotive.

His work has been published in several magazines, and his recognitions include a Gold Medal for “Best Portrait” from the Photographic Society of America (PSA); he received the Top Award out of more than 7,000 submissions from more than 42 countries. He also won the Northern New Jersey Porsche Club’s “Bill Walsh Award” for Outstanding Photography of Porsches three different years (2008 , 2012, 2015).

"I make every photo session a unique experience. I strive to create an atmosphere where my clients will enjoy being in front of the camera and expressing themselves. I'm open minded, artistic, creative and easy to work with. I always look for challenges and for the perfect image to reflect my clients’ inner beauty and personality. When I'm shooting weddings or special events my goal is to photo document LIFE and LOVE in a traditional, artistic or photojournalistic way, and create images that capture the emotions, the expressions and the details of that special day."
